Thanks Bryce for uncovering what should surely be an MSM headline story regarding that astroturf residents group ... that is if MSM weren't AWOL on distant planet ideologue.
Generally I have always thought of retirement villages as a parasites potential paradise. All those lifetimes worth of earnings just sitting there waiting to be plundered. There would no doubt be a lot less scope for such sleaze if there were more high quality, genuine retirement village co-operatives in NZ, owned by the residents.
In any case there are a number of dodgy practices going on. For example some operators control resale processes, delaying repayments while continuing to charge fees (e.g., weekly levies even after a resident has moved out). Those clearly need to be shut down pronto by law changes, irrespective of the kicking and screaming from the toe rags making a tidy killing.
The media has been quick to expose astroturf organisations run by the likes of Hobson's Pledge and the tobacco lobby. Why the reticence (except by NBR) over this one?
