I respect the author's personal leanings, but the overly sectarian tone of his article is disturbing. I think New Zealanders should get rid of the debate between left and right and focus the discussion on how to make this country more tolerant and harmonious. If the two extremes of left and right continue to fight against each other, New Zealand will become the second South Africa. This is by no means alarmist!

I see Labour has drifted so far to the left that they look conservative, not liberal, while they continue to make mediocrity the goal, and excellence is to be avoided, as it could look like mediocrity-shaming. The coalition has taken over centre NZ , where people want the young NZer of the year to get there by merit and achievement, not just by queerness.

Where you will find a swathe of Labor governments in office - at state and federal level. Higher taxes also await you. Which makes me wonder why you would want to go there - apart, of course, from the higher wages. (Secured, it must be said, by a much stronger trade union movement, and the Aussie version of Fair Pay Agreements!)

Or, we could break free of the economic dogma that has crippled this country materially and spiritually for forty years. With a return to fiscal sanity - not to mention justice - and an injection of the youthful vigor and enthusiasm that has been so sadly lacking, Aotearoa-New Zealand could, once again, lay down a progressive path for the world to follow. We have done this before - and people called us "God's Own Country" and "The Social Laboratory of the World". We will only become "Zimbabwe" if we retreat into the cave of our fears, and punish those who talk of sunlight.

I hate to burst some of the bubbles here, but I think that you will find that in general Kiwis will remember Labour’s treachery and lies for longer than 3 years. Hopefully for 6 to 9 years to repair some of the damage caused by the hapless and hopeless Ardern/Hipkins circus. Picking 2 members left over from the last shambles to lead Labour from the wilderness is like putting lipstick on a pig.

In fact while the Part Maori Party is joined to Labour’s hip they (Labour) may well be unelectable. Why would middle class Pakeha

want any of these racist thugs anywhere near the levers of power?

Why are Maori so against discussion on anything to do with the Treaty Chris? Maybe you might want to find out the answer to that question first.

Have you read He Puapua is it fair for all New Zealanders? Does it make us all equal? Why are govts past and present reluctant to discuss the treaty? Is the threats of violence or civil disobedience the reason? Where is this place called 'New Aotearoa' you mention? is it where your new masters will show their true colours and you find out they are not your friend or ally you are just a pawn to be used and discarded once you are of no use to them.Respect can be given to those who face and fight and be defeated but no respect is granted by either side to those who are fools of deception and fight against their own they r loathed by both sides.

True - an alliance by a Left Labour in coalition with the Maori Party and Greens could, in nine years not three, get back into power. Yet, they will spark a disaster for New Zealand that Trotter has written about in other articles. His formulae, should it come to pass for Labour to get back into power, will make us the Zimbabwe of the Pacific. Broken, bereft and disunited in an apartheid doctoral regime where ideology trumps common sense and reality.

Yes Maōri threatening violence, TPM intransigent bottem line, the radical HePuapua report. The left will remain in the wilderness looking for the promised land . I would never want Tāukuta Ferris anywhere near the baubles of power judging by his free gaza free aetoroa cry to arms and the general maori rallying cry and indoctrination of violence by young maori

I concur “only two MPs stand out as credible future leaders: Kieran McAnulty and Ginny Andersen” however having sat next to Ginny Andersen expressing what seemed to be opposition to her “personal” policies in the Hutt meet the candidates a few years back, I’d hope Kieran McAnulty comes to the fore. A long road to that yet.

Bravo! At last someone has the guts to imply if not actually say it, namely that NZ needs almost a revolution to rid itself of neoliberalism from power. This triumvirate of chaos will damage all but the rich. I do like the idea of ‘three years and not one day more!’ And even more, ‘New Aotearoa!’ That would really bring the racist right-wing out and show NZ what a disgusting lot they are. Bring it on!
